The student in One New Message is very excited because they have just won a trip to summer camp -- this is something that they have always wanted to do. But before they can attend camp, first they have to successfully navigate conversations and potential problems at home, school, their job, with their friends, and more.

The game mechanic uses in-game texting through which the game's character interacts with the various folks in their life. Through the game the player is exposed ot the protagonist's family life, school life, work life, and social life.

In all scenarios the player has texting options available to them but as the character becomes stressed the available options become problematic. The character is encouraged to engage in stress management to better respond.
