After a disastrous earthquake the island is cut off from the outside world. Survivors need to rely on the available and limited resources. Cooperation and smart resource management are essentiel for the group to survive. It's a first person online multiplayer game for 3-10 players.
The target audience is high school students of 15-16 year's old. The game should serve as an aid to introduce several concepts realted to sustainability. Concept that are introduced are the renewable resources (wind, solar enery, digestion) versus finite resources (diesel oil). Furthermore, Biobased economy concepts like the energy "cost" of food had to be shown. A specfific requirmeent was the stimulation of coopearion between students.
The game was tested on several schools during the development of the game. Student generally were enthusiastic about an educational game. They were well able to recognize the sustainability issues "raised" in the game and to realte them to their everyday life. The program worked well in a 2 hour-educational session.
